Description:SUK1 records HGS1 prepare kakjaegi (kor. t͡ɕənkɛŋi, Japanese horse mackerel, Trachurus japonicus) to eat, and interviews her about handling the fish, and what role fish played in the past when preparing tables for ancestral rites. HGS1 explains how she thought on Jeju Island one would usually not put fish without scales on such a table, yet she says how surprised she was to see that people on the mainland would even put octopus on such an arrangement. She also explains how in the past one did not go far out into the sea to get these, but not one has to go much further out. This recording is interesting since HGS1 switches back and forth between Korean and Jejuan, more than usual, depending on whether she is explaining knowledge about horse mackerels (using more Korean), or talking about her memories relating to preparing and eating fish, or about other people (in Jejuan). jeju0086-05 is not a continuation of jeju0086-01-04, which is why the two recordings were kept separate, although classified under one session. The last recording just shows HGS1 pack away the prepared fish. jeju0086-06 to jeju0086-10 are pictures taken during the recording.
