| Description: | Iskender tells us the story about the confused Angel of Death. There were two persons by the name of Isa, one was from Beth Qustan and the other from Zaz. Two angels of death came to take the sould of the one from Beth Qustan, but the angels had an argument before him saying that they got the wrong Isa. The correct one is the one who killed and Armenian. The Qusnean Isa then woke up from his vision and told his mother that Isa from Zaz has passed away. After inquiring about this, he was right, Isa from Zaz had died. | |
| The Beth Qustan dialect of the Central Neo-Aramaic, Turoyo, which is the language of Tur 'Abdin, South Eastern Turkey, with an estimated 20 families remaining in the village.This project will document socio-cultural practices of the Turoyo speaking community in Tur 'Abdin, focusing on vernacular tales, particularly those that demonstrate cultural interaction between Muslims and Christians, including Muslim visitations to the shrines of Christian saints, and consultation of soothsayers by Christians. | ||
