Born in Damascus (Sitt Zēnab neighbourhood) where he grew up until the age of 22. He had been in Beirut for three years. He left Damascus because of the civil war. In Lebanon he mostly lived in Hayy il-Gharbeh (Sabra) but often worked as a seasonal worker and in construction in other parts of Lebanon. He was also commuting to Marj close to the Syrian border where his mother would spend most of her time. Bilingual Arabic-Domari and also literate.
