| Zerenkel is an undocumented and endangered language spoken by circa 3000 rural inhabitants of the Guera region of Chad. This project aims to document a range of communicative events associated with highly endangered practices such as marriage rites, which are being lost to the community, and produce a phonology and grammar sketch. Due to a number of factors, the Zerenkel language and culture is under threat. Fortunately, in 2005, members of the community formed an association to develop and promote their language. This project will be undertaken in close collaboration with the community and aims to develop multilingual language and socio-cultural resources for the community. | ||
| This booklet is a compilation of three stories. The first story is about two friends travelling. One of them is a very bitchy man. He refused to give food to his friend whereas the 1st one shared all what he had with him. When they reached one village, he got marriage with the chief’s daughter. He killed her in the night then ran away. Military men resumed him. A bird came to rescue him and when he noticed he was far from military men, he killed the bird. Zerenkel people conclude that a bitchy person cannot change to a good one in spite of all opportunites he has. The second story is a translation of the bundle The Lion and the Hyena. The third one is a sensitization against AIDS and the consequences of sexual relations out of marriage. | ||
