| Description: | Shotuko Kunu is traditional Social ceremony meant to bring about unity. This bundle has the actual Shotuko Kunu ceremony of the Jaŝusow sub-clan of the Jebisow clan. The meeting lasted for 2 days and I was invited to video record the entire event. This recording not only captures a traditional ceremony as it is practised now, but is also a treasure house of various types of natural discourse, such as formal address, formal and informal discussions, giving instructions, conversations of all types, admonitions, and even reading a legal document. Perhaps for the first time in the history of the Akas legal document was entirely written and read in their own language. One of the videos capture this moment as well, with Dorjee Jebisow reading it aloud. It is common among the Akas to produce written legal agreements at the end of important meetings. Usually such documents are in English written according to the ability of the more educated participants. The Jaŝüsow sub-clan considers these recordings as an important memory and a witness for future generations about things spoken and decided during the ceremony. | |
