Description:The videos in the three bundles hru_1238a_customs, hru_1238b_nyetomiiny and hru_1238c_kyonzuvoziiw by Govardhan Nimasow, shot in the dimly lit kitchen above the concrete house of Govardhan Nimasow, at Palizi village, are precious for the following reasons: First, from the linguistic point of view, the two bundles hru_1238a_customs, and hru_1238_kyonzuvoziiw, are in the formal register. It is a poetic, formulaic and authoritative discourse delivered in a distinct exhortative style. The speech is full of classic vocabulary of concepts and terms that fewer and fewer people understand today. Govardhan is regarded as one of the best and among the last few who can comfortably speak this register. Secondly, the bundle hru_1238b_nyetomiiny is a very important mythological song, dear to the Hrusso Akas and is sung on important occasions and rites of passage. Again, fewer and fewer people are able to sing and understand it today. The video hru_1238a_customs summarises the belief system and the philosophy of the Hrusso Akas. Govardhan speaks about some important customs and practices, and while doing so also explains why they're important for the Hrusso Aka. community. Thus the video gives a deeper glimpse into the Hrusso Aka worldview. The video hru_1238c_kyonzuvoziiw is the mythological story of the two brothers, Kyonzüw and Vovzüw. It is a genealogical myth of the Parisow and Nimasow clans. Govardhan Nimasow is an important leader of the Hrusso Aka community. He is the current president of the Hrusso Elite Society (equivalent of a general council, 'elite' being some sort of a misnomer). Reording Conditions: The video was shot in somewhat noisy village surroundings. Govardhan's house is right in the middle of Palizi village, close to the main road. Video: Redorded with Canon XA20, settings - Auto. Audio: Micropones: Audio Technica 803B lavalier omnidirectional condenser microphones - 2, one for each stereo channel, both attached to speaker's collar. Audio recorded directly on Canon XA20 video camera using XLR inputs and extracted later as .wav files (archived here) using Any Video Coverter software. Recording Specs: Sample rate 48000 Hz, 32 bit float.
