Description:Songs of proposal: This video tells the story of two men each of whom composed a sung for their beloved and how they sang these songs when they proposed marriage to the woman they hoped to marry. The songs are sung using archaic language so only those over the age of seventythey five would be able to understand the meaning of these love songs. Also shown is an “insulting completion” between a man and a tattooed women. During the “competition” the participants exchange chants in which they make either a personal boast or attempt to slur the other participant with clever and witty insults. Another video is shows U Hla Sein explaining the traditional procedures and protocols a man must follow when courting a young woman in the hope of marrying her. He conveys and explains this process by composing a song about what the young suitor must do.
