Description: | Recording #3 includes the conquest of Northwestern Togo by the Germans. #5 tells of the partition of German Togo after the 1st World War. #7 tells of the relation of the Germans with the High Priest of the Bogoŋ at the end of the 19th century; the bringing home of the corpse of the Shiare Chief Priest and the founding of Dumbai. These recordings were completed in August - October 2006 and January 2008.
Tubale Okuma is the oldest Bogoŋ-speaking man, seniored only by his own sister Mbadoŋ. In 2007 he claimed to be more than hundred years old. According to my own estimate, he is most likely a few years younger than that (this is based on the facts that Tubaale Okuma is the third child to his mother, and the last born from the same mother was born around 1939). He is an extremely knowledgeable person, a herbalist and - until a few years ago - one of the most senior priests in the traditional religion. His father was in his old age the Chief Priest. In 2006 he converted to Islam. He is the older brother of Nana Kwame Awiagah, Chief Priest of Bogoŋ.
