Description:.Konda sings a malagan song, usually sung by chiefs at funerals. The song is actually sung in a language that is not completely understood by the people: it is a mix of many New Ireland languages, with some old words that have been forgotten. The question is, whether it is a really mixed language (with elements of all linguistic groups that share a common malagan culture) or whether it is a proto-language, the ancestor of modern New Ireland languages. The recording takes place in the community house of Lakurumau.
