Description:In this video, Grandpa Dorji Phub demonstrates and narrates about the offering to the death soul to ward off the evil spirit away from the affected sick person or household. This is an aged-old tradition passed downin the community for generations. It is a part of Bon (shamanism) which was practiced before the Buddhism prevailed in the regions and Bhutan at large.
Wangchuk is a PhD researcher at the University of Essex. He is PI, from Phonjikha and a native speaker of Nyenkha.
Yangchen is a student and lives in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. She is a Kurtoekha speaker and employed as a helper for this project.
Ugyen works for the DDC office and employed as RA with Wangchuk Rinzin. He is a native of Tshangla and uses Dzongkha and English as the national language and international language, respectively.
Jamtsho is a Gup (local leader) of Phobji Gewog (council) and native speaker of Nyenkha. He is employed as a language consultant as well as regional host who selects speaker/language consultant, provide basic facilities (family host) and arrange all necessary things. The research team was really grateful to him for providing all necessary requirements for this ELDP project.
Dorji Phub is a 74 years old grand father and father of the family. He lives at Taphu, Phobjikha, Wangduephodrang. Nyenkha is his native tongue and uses to communicate with his family and fellow Phobjibs. He is a resourceful experienced grandpa and narrator of aged-old tradition passed down from his great grand parents. He also speaks Dzongkha fully fluent and uses to communicate with other Bhutanese Dzongkha speakers. He is really joyful and considered to be a comedic actor at Phobjikha.
