Description:Dara talks about her memories of the Confrontation and the soldiers who were stationed in Bario and Pa Umor. The Confrontation was a conflict between Indonesia and the newly formed Malaysia in the 1960s and soldiers from the commonwealth (mainly from Britain, Australia and New Zealand) were stationed in the Kelabit Highlands to help defend the border between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia. Dara describes going to the army camp and getting chocolates and sweets. She also describes how the local people would take supplies to the camp to sell to the soldiers (e.g. fruit). Later on, she describes her memories of an attack on Pa Umor by Indonesian planes. She describes the longhouse as having holes in the walls and rice spillt all over the floor. Luckily, however, no-one was killed or shot during the war. She also describes a drill to go down into bunkers below the longhouse if the alarm was sounded. Finally, she describes riding in tanks that the soldiers brought with them and meeting the Duke of Edinburgh with the bamboo band (playing the suling or flute) when he took a day trip to Bario. The following equipment was used: Zoom H4N, Lavalier Mic, wind gag, Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Lens. The recording is in mono and wav format.
