Description: | The Great Andamanese used various types of wood to make hunting implements. Now-a-days, a shift in subsistence pattern has diminished the use of these implements and they make these only occasionally. In the pictures the tribe members can be seen making various types of bows and arrows. These weapons are made with great care and only those members indulge in making these who have a good knowledge of the wood. The late King Jirake was an expert in making bow and arrow. The women are engaged in making the traditional shell jewellery: sirbele and tato. This jewellery is used by the male members of the tribe while dancing. The main ingredients of making the jewellery are shells of various types. With that the bark of various trees are also used. | |
