Description:This perai I wove it with coconut leaf. First you arrange the coconut leaves. You strip them and you whittle it and you heat it (in the fire) it and you must make it slack for weaving. The perai is an important thing in our lives. Pera is a thing for filling up/putting things inside. Pera is a basket for women to carry – on their heads. Pera is a thing to fill with clothes, food, and shell money. You put clothes in it for a journey to a different village and you cover it with a home umbrella. Umbrella is a thing for covering yourself, lie down on. You carry the pera to the garden and you dig food. You fill it up, and you carry it back to the village. You arrive home and you show (take out) the food and leaves and sticks for making fire (for cooking) (i.e. you carry the firewood too).
