Description:EC01 continues talking about: Marie De Garis’ children; returning evacuees, all mixing together at school, knowing Guernesiais (G) helping her with French; the scholarship exam; cycling to the Intermediate School in town, the route she used to take; working on the farm, farm animals; pig on kitchen rack, cutting off slices bacon and putting down newspapers as the salt dripped; German tower at Les Islets; West Show in field next to the St. Peter’s arsenal; speaking G rarely nowadays, some names of speakers, JDG02, her brother; her granddaughter reciting at the Guernsey French Eisteddfod; what can be done to save G; the buses and problems, changes to quick; sea wall repairs at Perelle; working at the income tax office, then flower marketing, then the harbour office, different harbour masters; pass times, gardening, making bread, cakes, growing beans, tomatoes, not setting this year, other vegetables, what setting is; different varieties of tomato; hedgehogs in her garden, leaving food for them, birds could eat food, seeing the hedgehogs at night, not during the day, one getting caught up in wire netting, liking seeing them; knitting for grand children, jumpers for African children, names of colours, shades; visiting her Grandmother (she sewed well & made a lot of clothes during the Occupation) and grandfather who lived at Roseneath, Torteval, JM01’s great grand parents, a picture of her late son with her grandmother; things that you might say to well behaved children; that you might say to naughty children; the day’s activities, the washing, preparing the meals, gardening, cutting hedges, Douzaines checking that they have been cut; Floral Guernsey, farmers market in St. Martin’s, scouts wanted to raise money for their building, making cakes for their stall, description of stalls; Le Friquet Garden Centre; Hardware Shop in St. Martin’s; grocery shopping/shops; Tostevin’s vegetable stall (Forest); Lesbirel’s vegetable stall (St. Peter’s) and family home, and his background; location, having parking; airport construction works, her view; photograph of her with an aunt at airport opening ?? when she was a child;’ Happy Snaps’; planes flying overhead, noisy planes, being weighed before boarding inter-island planes in the past; boat trip to Alderney, other trips around the islands; understanding Sertchais and Jerriais, but not speaking it; linguistic variety in Guernsey, her Vale cousins; when she worked for the income tax she would sometimes be asked to translate in G for country folk.
