Description:TV01 talks about: his personal details, work as pastor in Cornwall; where he used to live before, returning to Guernsey, dividing up his parent's house as house prices high when he returned to Guernsey, finding the place and garden too much nowadays, having vegetables etc in garden and greenhouse; wife in care home and sister at hospital; growing cucumbers, last year’s tomato crop was poor; changeable weather; buses and problems with the new operator, cars have taken over from buses; being evacuated with sisters and mother and mother’s sister, ending up in Alderly Edge, Mother and aunty working in big house, being happy; passing the scholarship, going to school in Derbyshire last two years of being evacuated, the scholarship, other people that were evacuated, speaking Guernesiais (G) in England during WWII; JM01 stands up and closes door due to noise of garden power tool (strimmer); missing the trains when he came back, finding Guernsey quiet; returning evacuees finding it hard to readjust; returning evacuees had a different outlook; tomato industry and visitors; decline of grapes, a flowers in fields for export; finance industry; not so many tourists nowadays, once a lot of youth parties stayed in the island, decline in B&Bs and self-catering units; family, two sons in England, pastor, the other works in IT and lives in Milton Keynes, description of town’ location, preserving older villages; speaking G after the Occupation, in the western parishes, speaking it with his mother, not speaking it much anymore, no people; TV01’s mother being a Le Poidevin, mother Robilliard related to JM01; speaking only G before going to school, being raised in G; not being able to recall nursery rhymes, Grandfather having hymns in French, he died from being involved in an accident, horse and cart at L’Epinel; Perelle sea wall repairs, and work going to Jersey stone masons; The Guernsey Press and articles: buses, immigration debate, transport policy, cars being more convenient than buses, road closures; immigration debate, his views; articles about the past, old photos of sport people; articles on the States etc; views on the current States, past States; economy drive, losing 2.6 million; happy that people are preserving G for the future; other activities and interests etc; being at the Guernsey French Eisteddfod and entering, his memory being poor, fewer people in the audience, good crowd Saturday though, liking the duologues best; G concert at Torteval; not being able to attend children’s classes at Eisteddfod as busy visiting wife and sister; niece being interested in G, and learning a little, her mother, TV01’s younger sister moving to England; speakers of G he knows, fewer and fewer, neighbour who speaks it, lives in bungalow above his home, people from chapel that speak G, Les Adams; French services at chapel, stopping them as returning evacuees couldn’t understand French, not G, French from France, mixed up though, Jersey ministers visiting; not really understanding Jerriais; Serquiais, not many speakers, French services continued longer in Sark, having to build a new chapel because of complaints about the noise levels from the singing, 1925; linguistic variety in G, his paternal grandmother spoke differently, from Les Baissières, people didn’t travel out of parish so much; people that promote G, being related to CJ01, only speaking G in past times.
