Description:Stimulus film_packing (divided into two clips) Setting: room with bookshelves Participants: 2 female, 1 male Props: two bookshelves, packing boxes, books, other items (candles, framed pictures, etc.) Opening scene: The male is standing in front of the bookshelves The two females are sitting on the ground in front of the bookshelves, each next to a packing box. There are some books on the ground next to one of the boxes, and some newspaper (for wrapping) on the ground next to the other box. Scenario: The man is taking books and other items out of the bookshelves. There are various objects in both of the bookshelves, including books, magazines, framed pictures, candles. The books and magazines are being packed into one of the boxes (by one woman), while everything else is being packed into the other one of the boxes (by the other woman). Depending on what the man takes from the shelf, he passes it to the woman responsible for packing that type of item. As the movie starts, the women are placing items into the boxes. The objects woman is wrapping an item in newspaper, which she then places it into her box. The books woman is arranging books in the box, finding the best fit. The man is facing the bookshelves, reaching into one of the shelves. The man then gives some of the books to the books woman (1), she packs them into the box. The man turns back to the shelf and takes a non-book item, which he gives to the objects woman (2). Then books again to the books woman (3), then object to the objects woman (4), then books to the books woman (5), more books to the books woman (6), and books to the books woman again (7). Now the man reaches back into the shelf and takes an object (non-book), but passes it to the books woman (8) by mistake. The books woman has one hand in the box, holding books in place, and has her other arm outstretched, in expectation of the books (this should be the case for passes 6 and 7, as well). Her eyes should not be on the man and the object while her arm is outstretched now, but rather on the box and the books (also mini-entrained). She looks up as the man is passing the object, when it is close to her hand. The man is also somewhat absent-minded in passing, already looking back at the shelf. As the woman grasps the object, she is surprised, realizing the mistake right away (it's not a book). (Communication of the realization of the mistake through facial expressions between the three participants.) The books woman passes the object to the objects woman (9), who takes it and then wraps it in newspaper. The man passes an object to the objects woman (10), and some books to the books woman (11).
This corpus collects German sign language (DGS) data. For this project, native, early, and late DGS signers were recorded performing different tasks (narratives of short picture stories/cartoon clips) and engaging in free conversation. These recordings and their annotations are stored in this corpus.
GTP: The give&take stimuli consist of 2 videoclips, for the content of these clips - see the textfiles attached. Signers were asked to re-narrate the events in these videos to the addressee.
AF is a male native DGS signer.
RG is a male early DGS signer. He was born deaf but started signing DGS at the age of 5 in kindergarten.
UZ is a male native signer who recruited the participants in Aachen and recorded them.
Stimulus film_kitchen (divided into two clips) Setting: kitchen Participants: 3 females Props: table, chairs, stove, pot/pan, vegetables, knives, cutting boards, jars Opening scene: One person standing at stove, stirring food in pot/pan Two persons sitting/standing at table, cutting vegetables. Both people at the table have a knife and a cutting board. One is preparing a salad; the other is cutting vegetables for what is being prepared on the stove. On the table is a big bowl (salad bowl) into which the salad preparer puts what she is cutting. There is a plate of already cut broccoli next to the vegetable cutter. Other vegetables being cut and to be cut are scattered around the table. A jar of olives is in front of the salad preparer. Scenario: The salad preparer is cutting tomatoes. One is already cut and on one side of cutting board when film starts, and one is in the process of being cut when the film starts. After cutting a third tomato, the salad preparer slides the cut tomatoes off the board, into the bowl. The vegetable cutter is just finishing cutting brocolli. The full plate of cut brocolli is next to her. She starts cutting mushrooms. After a few moments, the cook gets the vegetable cutter's attention by pointing at plate of cut broccoli next to the vegetable cutter, signalling that she would like to have the plate. The vegetable cutter gives her the plate with the cut brocolli. The cook slides the brocolli off the plate into the pot/pan, and puts the empty plate next to her on the stove (or counter top). The vegetable cutter continues to cut mushrooms through this (and should do so until and into the jar passing). In the meantime, the salad preparer has been cutting a cucumber. The cucumber cutting should take a while (so that there's a period of just cutting before the jar starts being passed). When the salad preparer has finished cutting the cucumber, she puts the cucumber in the salad bowl. (The vegetable cutter is still cutting mushrooms.) She then takes the jar of olives standing in front of her cutting board, and tries to open the jar. She tries a number of times in vain (with visible effort), and then passes the jar to the vegetable cutter. (There should be some communication through facial expressions between the women here. For example, the vegetable cutter looking on sympathetically or in slight amusement. The salad cutter exasperated because she can't get the jar open.) The salad cutter then gives the jar to the vegetable cutter. The vegetable cutter tries to open the jar, also with visible effort, also in vain. (Again some communication through facial expressions.) The vegetable cutter passes the jar back to the salad cutter. The salad preparer tries again to open the jar, but again cannot do so. She passes the jar back to the vegetable cutter (communicating "here, you try again"). The vegetable cutter takes the jar, but does not try to open it. She communicates something like "What me? I can't do it, I just tried". Instead, the vegetable cutter passes the jar to the cook, who has been watching most of this take place. (Her posture also communicates that she is ready to give it a try. The cook starts twisting the lid, and on the first or second attempt, the jar opens. Everyone is happy and grateful to the cook (communicate through facial expressions). The cook gives the jar back to the salad preparer, who starts taking olives out of the jar and putting them into the salad bowl.
