Description:The participant was requested by Netra to talk about Jalpa Devi, a very famous goddess of Chintang. This text describes how the Chintang goddess comes in the existence. She is also called Jalpa Devi by the Rai's of Chintang. The recording is quality is good.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.
Lokendra talks on Jalpa Devi. He mainly talks about the origin of Jalpa Devi. How and when the Chintang goddess originated is the main theme of the talk.
The whole session is in Chintang. However, there are very few lexical items borrowed from Nepali as well.
Netra recorded this session and Lokendra narrated his memories on Chintang Devi.
