Description:It is an interview with the Chintang elder (JYR). The collector (IR) has asked numbers of questions concerned with different issues of Chintang like culture, history, clan, Jalpa Debi, etc. and he has discussed about them.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote, Devisthan and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. Both these districts are situated in the eastern hilly part of the country.http://www.cpdp.uzh.ch
It is an interview with a Chintang elder, on the following issues: history of Sangbong, Chintang Debi (Jalpa Debi), Budhohang and several historic events and other cultural issues.
The speaker (JYR) speaks mainly Chintang language and speaks other lanugauge as a contact language. In this text, he has spoken the Chintang language and the collector (IR) has spoken the Nepali language. Similarly, local helper (AB) has spoken the Chintang language.
Colletor (IR) took information about knowledgeable elders in Chintang. JYR, who lives at Sambu gãu in Chintang is one of them. He is also a shaman and works as a wattong, a knowledgeable village elder. Then, the collector went there with local helper called Anita Bolana Rai (AB) for recording some interesting and historic events.
The consultant is of the Ghume clan, he is one of the shamans (dhami) in the hamlet of Sambugau.
She is a student and facilitator for this recording.
Ichchha Purna is the RA for the study of ethnography of Chintang
