Description:This is the 7th session of the 6th monthly recording cycle of the child2 Kamala of the Child Language Development study.
The aim of the project is to provide a rich linguistic and ethnographic documentation of two highly endangered but almost totally undocumented languages in eastern Nepal, Chintang and Puma. These languages belong to the Kiranti family of Tibeto-Burman. Chintang is spoken by the Chintang Rai in Chintang Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dhankuta district. Puma is spoken by the Puma Rai in Diplung, Mauwabote and Pauwasera VDCs, to the south of Khotang bazar in Khotang district. (This session has not sound between 17:03 and 18:34) Kamala, Kalpana and Prithvi play with old newspaper and a flower. They play with local playing thing (bhurung). Kamala plays with Kalpana and Kalpana’s elder brother Prithvi. They are in front of the house and in the first part of the session only the children play with partly the father in the background working and sometimes the grandmother. Then later interaction with the child and the mother (no more other people present). In this session, Total utterances =1395 Total utterances spoken by Kamala = 301 Total utterances (- COMM) spoken by Kamala = 301-63 = 238 Total utterances spoken by others in the presence of Kamala = 1395-301=1094 Adult to adult utterances (AA) = 10
All the utterances are in Chintang language and a few Nepali words less than 10 are mixing in the text.
Kamala is the target child, Phul Maya is her mother, Ambir is her father, Harki Maya and Ganga Maya are her grandmothers, Ganga is her elder sister, Kalpana and Prithvi are her cousins, Man Kumari is their neibhbour and our local assistant, Goma is the collector and the annotator of this session.
Ganga is the elder sister of Kamala Rai. She is the second child of her parents. She is a student. She reads in class 3.
Kamala is the youngest daughter of her parents. She has five elder sisters.
Man Kumari is called 'Saĩli' in her home and in the neighbourhood. She is the neighbour of Kamala's family. She is our local assistant as well. She has passed class 10.

She is the mother of Kamala's father. She lives in Chintang only during the festivals. Otherwise she lives in Dhankuta headquater with her youngest son. She is Arihang, a clan of Chintang Rai and married to Sangpang Rai.
Prithvi Narayan is the elder brother of Kalpana. He is also called Perte and Pecce. He is the only one son in his family. He sometimes goes to school with his elder siblings. He is Kamala's father's younger brother's son.
Phul Maya Rai is the mother of our target child, Kamala Rai. She has 6 daughters. She is a housewife and a farmer as well. She is Khukkhang, a clan of Chintang Rai and married to Sangpang Rai. She is known as 'Khukkhangma Kaĩli' in the village.
Kalpana is the youngest child of her parents. She has three elder siblings. She is the daughter of Kamala's father's younger brother.
He is the father of Kamala. He has six children. He loves his children very much. He is a farmer and a porter as well.
Harki Maya is the mother's mother of Child2, Kamala Rai and father's mother of the child1, Khem Kumar Rai. Her house is 10 minutes from Kamala's house.
