Title:NyanateerMading_20OCT11_part1
Contributor (singer):Nyanateer Mading
Coverage:South Sudan
Date:2011-10-20
Description:At the beginning the singer introduces herself. She says: “I am Nyanateer Mading, married in the county Gogrial West. Her husband is from the Aguok section of Dinka, which is located in Western Gogrial. I am a member of the SPLA Women Association in Gogrial West. This song is a group song by women. It was created when we were in the bush (that is, during the war).” At the start of the song she says: “I was a member of the katiba (military unit) called Leek. This unit was led by Achol Cyier and Atong Manyual (female leaders). The war was constantly present in Gogrial. We were fed up with those Jur (Arabs), who made Gogrial as their home. Lord have mercy on our souls. John Garang was fighting Omar (Al-Bashir) because of our land. John said, “I will never surrender to let the Arabs take our oil and our gold.” Salva Kiir and Oyaai Deng were assigned to lead the war. Lord Jesus hear our prayers! Our leaders let the women talk to the UN to stop the war. We are giving birth for nothing. Widows are living a miserable life. A child was crying; his father died in the Rumbek battle field. An old woman cried because she lost her son in Torit. A disabled man is crying - he lost one of his legs in fighting near Gogrial. Lord hear the prayers of women, they are the ones who give birth to kings. We believe God will judge one day and we will enjoy the peace. I am happy for the women of Bahr el Ghazal, who managed to establish the women’s association.
