Description:Videorecordings of two male native NGT signers, one female late NGT signer, one hearing child (male) native signer and one deaf child (female) native signer, engaging in free conversation at home in the living room.
Logbook. The meeting of S011, S012, S123, S124 and S125 at 22 September 2011. Location: The recordings are in the house of S012 and S123. The participants are having conversations in the living room. The conversations between S011, S012, S123, S124 and S125 is about anecdotes, sign skills, whatabouts about being deaf/hearing and more other subjects. Technical information: The appointment was made with S011 and S012. They would meet at the house of S012. Unexpected: the wife and children of S012 were present too and were willing to be recorded too. In the beginning of the evening the children S124 and S125 are present too. The signers are interactive and are walking around through the livingroom. S124 for example came close to me and the camera to have a conversation with me. In this first moment it was hard to me to catch every sign of every person while recording. In the second moment everyone went to the coach. There all the people are having conversations with each other, this is recorded. The children went upstairs after a while because it was bedtime for them. After than the last and the biggest part is recorded, the conversations between S011, S012 and S123 during the rest of the evening. At the start of the recordings it's about 7 PM, it's still light outside. It helps for the quality of the recordings. It became dark outside later in the evening, with closed curtains. There wasn't enough light in the it became too dark in the livingroom. I requested for more light, but the lamp on the ceiling didn't work well. S012 told me if that lamp would be used, we would smell smoke. It wasn't save to use that lamp. After my request for more light S012 allowed to use the lamp on the ceiling and indeed, it became smokey. So it was set off quickly. A while later I requested again for more light, because it was too dark to record. S012 came back with a construction lamp. It seemed perfect but brought some shadow on the faces too. The lighting wasn't ideal during the records that evening. The duration of the records is about 3 hours, till the signers gave the sign it was enough for them.
