Description:This is a set of recordings made during the celebration of father's day in Rouku. The first video contains a conversation between several men. Abia Bai (ABB) had just returned to a village. He talks about his visit to Kiunga which he had last seen as a young man some 20 years ago. He describes the change to the town and the environment. The varieties used are mostly Komnzo, Wära and Anta. The second video includes some songs and the serving of food by the women. In the third video a young man - Yufai Karembu (YUK) - gives a large yam tuber back to several community members which have given him yam suckers in the previous seasons. He had married a woman from the neighboring village (Yokwa/Safs) and thus started a family in Rouku. The people who receive the gift each give him advice for his community life. All recordings were made with a CANON XA10 and a mounted shotgun mic (RODE VIDEOMIC).
This project focuses on collecting multimedia documentation of two undescribed Papuan languages of the Morehead-Maro family: Nen (Nambu subgroup) and Kómnzo (Tonda subgroup).
