A novel [set in Mali] recounting the trials and tribulations of Haawa, a stay-at-home married woman, who decides she needs help with her daily chores and asks her husband to provide the help by taking a second wife. For this marriage to happen, she is willing to sell two of her cows. This decision must be discussed with the relatives, and the matter is taken in front of the court. Through the unfolding of the story a vivid picture of the social, political, and economic life in a small Fulfulde town is painted. Ndeera est un roman qui nous raconte les difficultés quotidiennes de Haawa, femme au foyer qui finalement décide de se trouver de l’aide en demandant à son mari de prendre une deuxième femme. Pour que le mariage puisse se faire, Haawa est prête à vendre une de ses vaches. Mais cette décision devra être approuvé par la famille et aussi par le tribunal. A travers le dénouement de l’histoire l’auteur paint un tableau vivant de la vie sociale, politique, et économique d’une petite communauté peulhe.
