This is the story of a red fish, the Lyretail grouper [Variola louti], turned into a woman. One day, a lonely fisher was angling on the shore, and caught a beautiful woman. They lived together in their house. But the woman’s beauty made the man jealous: every day he would lock her in and prevent her from seeing anyone. One evening, he found the lock untied, and understood she had been unfaithful. Enraged, he beat her and burned her with fire. This left a mark on her neck, a mark which certain Lyretail groupers still bear today. In shock, the woman left the house, and walked towards the shore. Despite her husband's pleas, she decided to return to her world, and dived back in the ocean.
