Creator:Kirk Hazen
Date:1999
Description:These recordings are from natives of West Virginia in the eastern US. The 67 people interviewed are from established families in WV, and are evenly stratified by age, region, and sex. West Virginia is the only US state fully enclosed in the Appalachian region, but it does contain four traditional dialect subregions according to older dialect atlases. The sociolinguistic interviews cover a wide diversity of topics including changes in local communities and local social divisions. Time-aligned transcripts are available for all interviews in SLAAP. Collection contains 58 individual interviews/records. See project website - http://dialects.english.wvu.edu/ - for more information.
