OLAC Record

Title:Jack Tobin papers
Abstract:The bulk of the collection comprises approximately 6 linear feet of unpublished paper material. Almost all of the material relates to Tobin's work as an anthropologist in the Marshall Islands, although there is some early material from his student days. Much of the contents are grouped loosely geographically by atoll; some others by topic. Most often covered are Majuro, Enewetak, Bikini, Rongelap, Ujelang, Arno, Kwajalein and Ebeye. Collection also includes photographs, negatives, slides, government reports, court documents, maps, genealogies, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and manuscripts written by Tobin and others. Most of the photographs that are part of this collection have been digitized and are available to view in the University of Hawaii at Manoa's digital repository. The collection also includes audio recordings and a few artifacts

Provenance:As there was no clear arrangement, one was imposed. The series were mainly defined by format, and unpublished paper materials split into three series: Papers, Manuscripts, and External documents. Any published items (copies of whole monographs, chapters, article reprints and single issue serials) found in the folders were removed, listed in a bibliography, and then deaccessioned. Some files found in the initial inventory were removed as all their contents were either redistributed or deaccessioned. The file titles provided by Tobin were maintained verbatim as much as possible
