Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story is about a mother and her lazy son. Once upon a time, there was a widow who had a son in a village. He was so lazy that he didn't want to work. He was sleeping and lying down on the bed all day. He relied on his mother too much. His friends called him, "Let's go fishing over there." But he didn't go there with his friends. He said, "No, I don't know how to catch fish." There was a fishing basket that his friends used for fishing. He saw that and made that kind of basket. People used it to catch fish, but he put it between the branches of the tree. He put some grains in it too. The next day, he thought there would be many fishes in the basket. But there was none. There was a white egret in the fishing basket. So, he took it out of the basket. And he said, "An egret, go to my house. My house is on the outskirts of the village. Tell my mother to cook half of your meat for today and dry another half of your meat for tomorrow." He let the egret go. The egret was relieved, "I am free now. I will not be killed." Then, it flew away. The lazy boy went back home too. When he arrived home, he asked his mother, "Mom, I told the egret to tell you these words. I told it, "Tell my mom to cook half of your meat for today and another half for tomorrow." Didn't it come to you and tell you about it?" His mother said, "My son, how come the egret flew to me to get killed? It won't come! You need to kill it first and bring it home so that I can cook it for you. You are such a stupid boy." He replied, "Okay then. I will kill anything I get." The following day, he went to the forest to find the egret. He saw white mushrooms attaching to the tree trunk somewhere in the forest. Then, he thought, "This would be the egret I lost yesterday." He picked a branch up and beat those mushrooms. All the mushrooms were beaten up into pieces. He brought them home and said, "Mom, look! You said I had to kill them first. So, I did." The mother saw the pieces of mushrooms and said, "My son, these are mushrooms. You can't smash them into pieces. Use a knife and cut its stem. If you smash them all, we can't eat them." The next day, he took the knife and went to the forest. There was a beehive covered by snow on a tree. It was all white because of the snow. He saw it, so he took his knife out and cut it as his mother said. The bees were coming out and stinging him. He barely cut the hive down and took it home. Some bees were still stinging his hands. When he arrived home, his mother said, "My son, that is a beehive. You shouldn't cut it with your knife. You have to smoke them. They have stung you because you cut the hive. See! There is the queen bee." The next day, he lit the bamboo torch and went into the forest again. He saw a deer sitting down. Then, he tried to burn the deer. The deer was shocked and kicked him. And it ran away into the deep forest. He came back home and told his mom, "Mom, you told me that I had to smoke it. So, I did. But it kicked me hard and ran away. It looks like a deer. It was lying down on the grass. When I tried to burn it, it kicked me hard. Now, my hands and legs are hurt. You are wrong, mom." He pissed off. His mother told him, "My son, that is an animal. You can't burn it. Don't you even know that? You are so stupid. Thanks GOD, that it didn't kill you." Everything he did was wrong. So, his mother said, "Don't do anything from now on! Everything you do is not right. You should just spend your life at home. I don't know what to do for you too." She felt disappointed. Many years later, she died. The lazy boy had to spend his life with lots of troubles. This is the end of the story. Transcription (La Ring) Ndai gaw ya na gaw grai lagawn ai ama yen nu a lam.
