Description:Translation (Htoi San) Once upon a time, a widow had a child. The widow sent her child to school. That child stole a lot. When he went to school, he ran off with pencils, erasers, etc. He brought those things home, but his mother did not say anything. She received and kept the things that her son stole from school. She did not teach her son, "You cannot steal." She did not say, "You cannot take other people's belongings." She kept quiet when her son brought things and received them silently. Every day, when her child visited his friend's home, he always took some things like toys, but his mother did not say anything to him. Moreover, she ate food which his son stole from others. Her child grew older day by day, and she never taught her son about his stealing habit. His mother did not advise his lousy habit and said, "You are not supposed to steal this." Then, her son was getting older and older. One day, her son became a big thief. As a plunderer, he took valuable items from other people in his village. Soldiers and police saw him stealing and arrested him. He was put in jail. In prison, he was given a death sentence as his crime was a significant transgression of the law. "Give him a death sentence." The judge told him that. On his punishment day, which was the next day, the authority asked him for his last chance, "What do you do today? Do you want to see your mother?" "What wish do you have? Today is the last day so tell us what you want to do." He requested, "Officers, I won't appeal to let me go. I don't want to request anything. But I want to meet my mother. Please call her for me." He asked the authorities to bring his mother. So the authorities brought his mother, and she came to the prison to meet him. Mother asked her son, "What do you want to say, son?" Mother pretended to be sad and cried. They both wept, and the boy said, "Mother, please come closer to me. I need to speak softly." "Come closer to me. Come beside me," the boy told her to go near him. When mother went near her son, he said, "Mother, you last time I," Her son bit her ear. He straight away bit her ear hard. Mother was in so much pain and asked, "My son, why did you bite my ear?" "Mother, when I was young, how much I stole other people's belongings from school, I took my friends' pencils, erasers, and books; I stole things from other people's homes," "You ate along with me. You never said and taught me that I could not steal things, not even once." "You never trained me once that I should not take other people's belongings. Therefore when I am older, I become a purloin and am given a death sentence. This is happening because you did not guide me." He told his mother. That was why he bit his mother's ear until it was cut. Mother said to him, "You are right. This feedback is because I did not teach my son." Even though she repented, it was too late already. Her son was given the death punishment after he cut his mother's ear and after their talking. Therefore, parents also need to discipline their children in every way. Since they are young, parents need to tell them not to follow the evil way, not to steal other's possessions, and when they do bad things, parents have to discipline them. I am telling this story to children because this is the parent's duty. Transcription (La Ring) Moi kalang mi da gaida yan nu nga ai da. Dai shaloi gaina yen nu dai gaida kasha gaw jawng shalun da ai.
