Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a big village. The story I am going to tell is about a princess and three brave boys. Once upon a time, there was an old man who had three sons in a village. They were Ma Gam, Ma Naw and Ma La. The boys became adults. His wife died when the children were adults. Therefore, he lived with his three sons. He thought, "When they grow older and I am dead, it's not okay if they can't do anything. I need to make them independent." He told his sons, "You can learn any skills you want in three years." Ma Gam learned sword fighting skills. He was really good at using a sword. He could even cut a raindrop into ten pieces. Ma Naw learned the skill of stealing. He could take the eggs from a brood without getting attacked. Ma La could sew very well. He could make a broken egg into a good one. He had an amazing skill. They thought they were skillful and went back to their father. There was a princess in their country. The ogre kidnapped her. The king was looking for the princess with all of his servants, but they couldn't find her. Then the king announced, "I will give half of my country to the one who can save my daughter. I will let him marry my daughter, too." The three brothers said, "Let's find her. We will get half of the king's country too." Then they went to the palace and said to the king, "We will find the princess and take her to the palace." The king said, "Okay. Three of you go and find her. If you can't find her, I will kill you." Three of them were looking for the princess everywhere the ogres might live. They saw an island. They thought, "The princess might be there." They went there by boat. Before they were on the island, Ma Gam said, "I will cut the ogre into pieces!" He waved his sword and claimed it. Then, his sword acidentally cut the boat, and it was broken into two pieces. They were scared and said, "Oh, we are not even on the island yet. The boat is broken!" Then Ma La said, "It's okay. I will fix it." He fixed it well. They rowed the boat to reach the island. When they arrived there, they divided the tasks. Ma La said, "My eldest brother, you attack the ogre. And my second brother, you go and steal the princess. I will wait on the boat. As soon as the princess is free, all of us will run away in this boat." Ma La was guarding the boat. He was making sure not to allow the ogres to come near it. Ma Naw also went near the cage where the princess was kept. The cage was locked. He hit the lock with a rock and took the princess out of the cage. Ma Naw and the princess ran to the boat, but Ma Gam was not there yet. He was fighting with the ogre. In the end, he couldn't fight anymore and just ran away. He ran towards the boat. When he arrived there, four of them took the boat and rowed it hard. The three brothers could take the princess to the palace safely. The king felt over the moon and celebrated a big event. The king announced, "I will give half of my country to these three brothers. But I have only one daughter. There are three brothers who saved her. Who will get married to her?" The princess said, "I will marry anyone of them who loves me." The king asked the three brothers, "Who loves the princess?" They said, "We don't love her." Then the king asked them, "Why?" They replied, "The princess is not pretty." The three brothers just took half of the country and ruled it happily together.
