Description:Translation (Seng Pan) The story I am going to tell now is about porcupine cutting his leg instead of cutting the rope when it was trapped. A long time ago, there was a village. Almost all villagers worked as farmers. A villager, an old lady, had her field at a remote area. She planted paddy for living. In her field, something strange always happened. When she dug up taro and ginger, the next morning, they ever disappeared. There only left some remnants. The old lady was so angry that her vegetables were eaten all by animals. So, she made a trap to know what kind of animal came and ate her vegetables. but didn't catch any animals. The old lady always chewed betel quids. And she carelessly spat out betel quid saliva. So, it made her hairs dirty and smelly. As she sleeps on the bamboo floor, the bed bugs which live in the small gaps between the planks of flooring were stuck to her longyi. The bed bugs were stuck to Buhtawn (it's a band of cloth (usually black) stitched on to the upper hem of woman's longyi). On the day she arrived back at her field, she found out that her vegetables were eaten again. She got so mad and planned to make a trap. But she forgot to bring the rope. Therefore, she tore her Buhtawn and used it as the rope to make a trap. However, she didn't know there were bugs on her Buhtawn. After she made a trap, she went back home. At night, a porcupine came to the field to eat the vegetables. But its leg was trapped at the place where it could nearly take a bite at a vegetable. At first, it tried to cut Buhtawn by bitting it with its sharp teeth. As it bit Buhtawn, it chewed the bed bugs. Since they were so smelly, the porcupine felt disgusting. It stopped biting Buhtawn and just bit its leg which was trapped. Finally, it could cut its leg and ran away. From that time on, when the porcupines are caught in any traps, they don't cut the rope. But they cut their leg and run.
