Description:Translation (Htoi San) I am telling the story this time about a girl who drowned to death. A long time ago, there was an adolescent girl who lived in Namsan village. Her parents were farmers, and she was the eldest sister among her siblings. She was an obedient and hard-working daughter. She had a boyfriend as she was at the age of puberty. Her mother was not mindful and fierce. She did not fulfill the needs of her daughter according to her age. The girl had to look after her young siblings, and she could not attend school regularly. When her parents told her to work, she obeyed her father and mother well. Even though she needed to go to school, her parents ordered her to babysit, and then she listened and exactly did as her mother told her. Although she had to attend the class, she respected her parents' words and went to the farm for work. As she was growing up, she fell in love with a boy who loved her. One day in a rainy season, she was planting the paddy during the planting season. The heavy rain was falling in the evening time as it was a rainy and planting season. She and two of her friends said, "There is heavy rain tonight so that the water level will high up." "Let's go back along the main road where we don't need to cross the water." Her mother did not buy her slippers. She was shy that her friends might find out about that if she went back to the main road. That's why she told her friends that she did not want to go back to the main road but to cross the water. She continued, "My boyfriend is waiting on the way to meet me too. Her two friends said, "If you really want to go backcrossing the river, We will go back the same way with you because we are worried for you. Three of us will go back together." There was a river near their village which was rising due to the heavy rain. So the three girls held their hands and passed the river. While three of them were passing through, the current water rose from the upper part of the river, and they drifted away with the water. Among the three drowning girls, one girl came out on a sandbank at the river bank, and another girl floated down the river until she could grab the old log. But the poor girl who did not have the slippers and the very obedient one drowned and died under the water. She was not found for many days. Three or four villagers used a boat to search for her, and she was found at the bottom of the Namsan river after three days. Her body was found without any clothes and laid only with underwear on the sandbank. Villages and her mother were very sad and took her back home. They nicely prepared the coffin for burying her. Her boyfriend was so sad and cried a lot. Her mother and family were also so mournful and weeping for months and years. So he felt so much sorrow and pity for her unsatisfied family and went to the spirit (nat) prophet. The spirit prophet inspired and told the mother, "Mother, because you did not buy me slippers, I was so embarrassed. So I went back home crossing through the river, and the head spirit took me from the water." She said, "The head spirit who took me was the chief spirit of Loi Lum Mountain (Loi Lum Bum)." She also said, "Please don't let my brother, who only left at home, go near the river. If he goes, he will be like me. Now the spirit leaders and the military spirit leaders are gathering spirit soldiers from Loi Lum Bum." Mother replied to her, "When are they going to collect?" - she answered through the spirit prophet, "There is no exact time and date. Therefore, don't let my brother near the river." She continued, "I am happy here, and even though I married one of the leaders, but I still could not pay the wealth paid for the bride." "Around ten days in (Kap) month, I will come and pay for the bridewealth after ten days. Buffaloes, cows, and dongs are the bride price. Mother, please wait at the farm, and I have requested people to bring these gifts to you." When the mother arrived home, she was so miserable. "Although my child is dead, dongs, buffaloes, and cows, aww, how could she give us?" The father did not remember his daughter's bride price, whether they would bring it, or not but he put a trap on the farm even if he believed it or not. When the time had come, there was a deer caught in the father's trap. Father thought, "Aw, my daughter said through the spirit prophet for the bride price is this deer." - then he accepted it. They carefully dismembered that deer and sold the shredded pieces. They kept and did not dare to use the money, assuming these as the bride price paid by their daughter. Her younger siblings did not go anywhere as the spirit prophet told them. They thought what these were. They were told not to go there, and they listened as well as they missed their sister so much and cried together. Father was so unhappy to shred the deer which was given as the bridewealth from her daughter. Later, her parents believed her daughter was happy to be the chief's wife, and she enjoyed her life there. The parents were not satisfied and downhearted because they could not see their daughter's physical body. Later, they placed the trap again, but they caught no animals there. Hence, they accepted that their daughter gave that deer as her bridewealth for them. Here is the end of the story.
