Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about a dog and a pig. Once upon a time, there were a dog and a pig in a house. In the past, the pig did not stay in the pigsty like now. The dog just slept anywhere. It didn't sleep on a threshold like now. The dog and the pig did everything what their owner ordered them. They worked hard. One day, they two were ordered to work in the farm. They had to plough the farm. While the pig was working the whole day, the dog was sleeping. The pig didn't even rest and worked hard. On the other hand, the dog slept and didn't work a bit. Then it was the time to go back home since it was getting dark. The pig was tired since it worked the whole day. It told the dog, "My friend, let's go home. It's getting dark." The dog woke up then, and told the pig, "Okay, okay. You go home first. I'll follow you." Then the pig went back home first. After the pig went back home, the dog started to walk on the farm which the pig ploughed the whole day. It stepped everywhere. Then there were only its footprints on the farm. After doing like that, it went back home too. When they two reached home, their owner asked them, "How much did you work today? Did you two work hard?" They answered, "We work or not, you can go to the farm and check. You will see." So, the owner went to the farm and saw that there were only the dog's footprints. The owner said, "I ordered you two to work. But there are only the dog's footprints." Then the pig explained, "My lord, I worked the whole day. The dog was sleeping." Their master told, "There are only the dog's footprints. It's not right. I will order you another thing to do. After that, I will give you the place to stay. Okay?" "This is the last time, alright? Go to the field this time. Clean and cultivate the paddy field," said their master. Then they two went there. The dog was sleeping again without doing its work. While the dog was sleeping, the pig was working hard. It took only a short rest and ploughed the paddy field the whole day. Then it was getting dark. It was the time to go back home. Then the pig called the dog, "My friend, let's go home. You didn't work today but it's getting dark." Then the pig went back home alone. The dog said, "You go home first. I will follow you." This time again, the dog stepped on the field which the pig worked. Then there were only the dog's footprints on the field. At night, the owner told them, "I will go and check who worked hard on the field tomorrow." When the owner asked them, the pig said that it worked hard. But there were only the dog's footprints. Their master thought to himself, "When I asked them 'who worked?', the pig told me that it worked the whole day and the dog was just sleeping. The dog also told me that it worked the whole day. But there were only the dog's footprints on the field." Then he told them, "I will decide for you two. Since today, the pig needs to stay inside the pigsty since you lied to me that you worked hard. The dog will get the chance to stay beside human being. You can stay on the threshold." So, the dog could stay with human, and the pig needed to stay in the pigsty.
