Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell you is why the taro leaves repelled water. Once upon a time, there was a lady in a village. She grew many flowers in her garden. She carried water from the stream and poured it onto the flowers. The flowers she grew were growing fast. She weeded the flowers and poured water on them every day. One day, her father told her, "My daughter, don't you feel tired doing the same work every day? Take some rest." She said, "No, I am not tired at all." She kept doing her work without being tired. The flowers were growing much. So, the water from the stream was not enough for all the flowers. Then, she had to go to the river to carry the water. The spirit of the river fell in love with her. She went back home in the evening. The spirit appeared in her dream at night. The spirit told her in her dream, "I fell for you as soon as I saw you. Will you marry me?" She woke up shockingly. She kept doing her work as usual. She felt tired after working for some time, so she took a nap. At that time, she had a dream of him again. The spirit of the river said, "I love you. Will you marry me?" She wondered why she had the same dream all the time. She forgot about the dream when she carried the water in the evening. But she dreamt the same dream at night. The spirit told her in her dream, "Will you marry me?" She woke up suddenly and felt surprised. She quickly poured water on her flowers and went back home. When she slept at night, the spirit of water appeared in her dream again. And he told her, "I have told you to marry me many times. But you don't give me any answers. So, I will give you some time to think of me. I will give you 100 days. Think of me during these 100 days and give me an answer after 100 days. If you don't give me an answer, you will have to spend your life as a taro leaf." She was shocked after dreaming like that. She was scared. She couldn't sleep or eat well. She felt unhappy. She didn't know what to do, so she told her father about it. Her father comforted her, "Don't worry. It's just a dream. Don't think too much. It's just a dream. It will not happen truly." After 100 days, she went to the river. She stood near the river and shouted loudly. "I won't marry you!" said she. Then, the spirit of water appeared in front of her. He turned her to the taro plant. He said, "You will not feel the sense of water. You will have to live your life as the taro plant." Her father was angry and cried hard for her. He was so angry that he wanted to fill the soil on it. He felt pity for his daughter and thought, "My daughter still needs to survive." So, he poured the water onto the taro plant. But the plant was not wet at all. Since then, the water can't make the taro plant wet. The taro plant always repels the water. Even though the water is on the leaves, they can't be wet. When we throw the water, the leaves are not wet at all. When we don't listen to others or are against others, something bad might happen to us. This is the end of the story.
