Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was an old couple who were woodcutters in a village. The man was too old. But they needed to cut wood for their living. While they were taking a rest, the woman told her husband, "How can we survive? We are getting older and older, and we can't work too much now." They were taking a rest because they were exhausted. In the evening, a man came to them and asked them, "Do you have a three-year-old cock?" They said, "Yes, we do." He asked them, "Do you also have three-year-old fermented liquor?" They answered, "Yes." The man told them, "I will come back tonight. Serve me that food." Then, the old couple carried the wood and went back home. The old man told his wife, "I told him that we had a three-year-old cock and fermented liquor, although we don't have them. So, let's kill the biggest cock." She said, "Okay, I will go catch the biggest cock and kill it. You cook it, okay?" The old man asked her, "Do we have three-year-old fermented liquor?" She said, "We don't have it, but I have some fermented liquid that I cooked yesterday. Let's offer it to him." They had been waiting for the young man, but he didn't show up. They thought he might not come. When it was really dark, the young man came to their house and said, "I am coming." They welcomed him warmly. They said, "We have prepared three-year-old fermented liquid and chicken for you. Enjoy your meal." The man said, "It's really delicious. You have prepared this tasty meal for me, even though you don't have enough money." The old couple gave an old blanket and a wooden pillow to him and said, "Let's sleep here. We give you the best thing we have." He said, "It's okay," and slept there. Three of them slept there together. When it was morning, the old woman woke up and cooked breakfast. But the young man didn't wake up. She told her husband, "May be, he is dead because of cold weather. Wake him up." When the old man went there to wake the guest up, he was not there. Surprisingly, there was only gold. The old couple was overwhelmed with happiness and thanked GOD, "GOD bless us. We don't need to cut wood anymore." They could live happily without any worries about their financial issues. Then, their neighbours felt jealous of them. The neighbours asked them, "How did you get rich?" They replied, "We are just woodcutters. GOD bless us because we are so poor and old." The neighbours said, "Let's go cut some trees there. We might get the gold." The neighbour couple went there and cut the trees. After a while, the woman told her husband, "I am so tired. Let's take a rest." The husband said, "Okay, let's rest." A stranger appeared and asked them, "Why did you come here?" They answered, "We come to collect wood because we are poor." He asked them, "Do you have a three-year-old cock?" The husband said, "Yes." His wife was angry at him, "We don't have it. Why did you say like that?" The stranger asked them, "Do you have three-year-old fermented liquid?" At that time, the wife said, "No, we don't." The husband quickly said, "No, she is lying. We have fermented liquid." The stranger said, "Okay, I will come to your house tonight." They had been waiting for the stranger the whole evening. The husband told his wife, "Did you cook rice and curry? Let's treat him as soon as the rice is ready." She shouted at him, "What the hell are you talking about? We don't have any food!" He told her, "Don't say like that, my wife. Be polite." At late night, the man came to their house. He asked, "Hello! Is anybody there?" The wife said, "We are here, but we are about to sleep." He said, "As I told you this afternoon, I visit you as a guest." Then, the woman said, "Okay, come in," and opened the gate for him. The husband treated him to food and asked, "Does it taste good?" The stranger said, "It's delicious." After eating dinner, he slept there. In the morning, the guest didn't wake up. When the husband went to wake the guest up, there was only waste. As the woman spoke ill or was aggressive, only bad things happened to them. Getting good or bad things totally relies on the woman's words.
