Description:Translation (Htoi San) Long ago, a young girl and a young boy fell in love and married. After they tied a knot, his wife got pregnant. While the wife was pregnant and their marriage was not long, the husband was called to serve in the army, and it was time for him to join the military. The husband went away to be a soldier for three years. At that time, the wife stayed home expecting a baby. When the womb was more significant, and it was due to delivery, she could not deliver in childbirth. She passed away as she could not give birth to the baby. She haunted her village as she burst her womb and died. She made people scared so that her village people were frightened of her. The husband went back home when the service was over after three years. Their house had been breaking down, and many bitter gourd vines and other gourd vines covered all over the place. It looked like it had crumbled in the jungle. When the husband came into his village after three years, it was sunset and dark. When he came back, he imagined that his son could be older. Their house was on the outskirts of the village. When the husband saw his house, it was the same as when he left. When he looked at his wife, she was carrying the baby, standing on the balcony and waiting for him. He was so happy when he saw that scene and went into that house. No one told him that his wife had already died. As he did not know that she had passed away, he went into his house. His wife welcomed him nicely, and she took out his bag, then he rested in the living room. After that, he said, "Hey, my wife and my child." In that house, his wife and child were there, and he told her, "My wife, there was dried meat in my bag. Take and grill it. I want to eat. I want to eat dinner now." He asked his wife to grill the dried meat. His wife grilled the dried meat as he told. The fumes came out from the dried meat as his wife burned it. He watched her as the smell of the dried meat came out. The husband lay down and watched her doing it. The wife took a long green tongue out from her mouth and licked the meat. When the husband saw that, he was shocked as it was nighttime and dark. "I thought she was my wife, so I asked to grill the dried meat," he thought and watched her again scarily. His wife's tongue was like a fork and licked oil from grilling the dried meat. "Oh, my God! That doesn't seem right. That isn't right." He was scared and straight away ran up to the village. He ran into where there were people. Long ago, people built houses closely. The houses in the village were close to each other and just a hut; after that, another cabin. The husband ran into the place where there were more people and reached among them. "Oh my! What happened to you tonight? When did you come back from your military service?" people asked him, and he answered, "I came back tonight." He continued, "When I entered my house, my wife was there too." "I requested her to grill the dried meat, but I ended up seeing the scary scene. So I ran up here to escape. I am so afraid." He told this to the people from other houses and villagers. The villagers told him, "Hey, your wife is not alive. She passed away long ago. When you left, she died because she could not deliver the baby." "She haunts everyone in our village. She becomes a Ndang spirit." "The whole village is scared of her, and no one dares to go out when it is dark. So why do you enter your house?" The husband responded, "Oh, I don't think that would happen. She is my wife." The village people explained to him, "No, it is not true. Your eyes are hallucinating. If you don't believe us, let's go and see your house with us tomorrow. Your house broke down and crumbled. Your wife also passed away and is not there." The following day, he went to his house with the village people. He found the whole house was covered with bitter gourd vines, all destroyed and fallen down. His house was flattened, and many vines and grass were everywhere. The bag he took out last night was on the rock in front of the house. Last night, he thought he had gotten into the house, but when he saw the next day, his bag and basket were lying on the rock. The people said, "Your wife died long ago, and now you see the situation." The husband knew the consequences of leaving the wife while she was pregnant. Therefore, the husband should not leave the pregnant wife alone. Transcription (La Ring) Moi shawng de da e ndai mahkawn langai hte shabrang langai gaw grai tsawra hkat di na i la hkat ai da.
