Description:Translation (Gun Mai) A long time ago, there was a person called Shan Tang. He thought to himself a lot about why he was poor and he was not getting rich. He laid down on the bed and thought the whole night. Then, he said to himself that "I got it. I know it now. I have remembered that there is an old fortune-teller in a place of nine mountains." So, he went there. On the next morning, he got up very early and went there. On the way, when he got a place after three days and three nights, there was an old man who was doing a pear farm. He got to the farm. So, he took a rest at the old man's house. The old man asked that "Hi man, where are you going?" "I am going to the place of nine mountains to meet with an old man to ask my future fortune," Shan Tang said. The old man who was also doing pear farm also said that "If so, please also ask for me that why my pear farm is also not fruit while the pear plants are very good." The man said that it was OK and he continued his journey. He left and then, he got to a village again. There was a house that had a very beautiful daughter. He took a rest again in the house of an old man who had a beautiful daughter. The man said that "Man, where are you going?" "Since my fortune is not used to grow, I am going to the nine mountains because there is an old man who is a fortune teller. I am going to meet with the old man to ask my fortune," the man answered. The old man also said that "If so, let me also tell you one word. My daughter is now 18 years old but she doesn't speak since she was born. So, please can you also ask for me that why my daughter doesn't speak." Shan Tang then said that yes, OK and he continued his journey. After seven days and seven nights, there was a big river. He got to the big river. And met with a big marsh tortoise. At that time, the river was also rising so he could not pass the river. He saw the big marsh tortoise. The marsh tortoise asked that "Where are you going?" "Since I want to know my life's fortune, I am going to an old man fortune-teller who is living in the nine mountains," answered the man. Then, the marsh tortoise also said that "I think it is because there is something on my back. I want to know why I cannot fly. I want to fly in the sky. Please also ask for me that why I cannot fly. I will help you to cross the other side of the river." After the marsh tortoise said so, Shang Tang rode on the back of the marsh tortoise and crossed the river. After Shang Tang crossed the river, he continued to walk and got to the nine mountains. An old man who was with a long beard was sitting there. When he got to the old man, the old man asked that "Why did you come to me? No one used to come to this place. Why are you coming to me?" Shan Tang then said that "Grandpa, my life is such a poor life. I am coming to ask you that why I am so poor." "OK, you can then ask me only three questions," said the old man. So, Shan Tang thought to himself that "Should I ask for myself or should I ask for others." The old man also said that "I also don't want to listen a lot." So, the man decided to ask the questions of others and not to ask for himself. "Grandpa, the pear plants were very good with a lot of leaves but why the plants are not fruit?" the man asked. Then, the old man said that "It was because there are gold pots at the root of the pear plants." The man noted about that. "Then, a daughter is 18 years old but she doesn't speak anything since she was born. Why is that?" the man asked again. "The girl will speak when she meets a man whom she loves," answered the old man. The man asked again that "So, why the marsh tortoise cannot fly in the sky?" "It was because there are two rubies in the throat. If he can remove that, he will be able to fly," answered the old man. So, the man returned home. He got first to the marsh tortoise. The marsh tortoise asked that "Did you ask the question that I asked to ask for me?" "Yes, I asked," the man answered. "What did he say," the marsh tortoise said. "He said that there are two rubies in your throat. If you can spit out even only one ruby, you will be able to fly." "Don't say only one ruby. I will spit out even two rubies for you," the marsh tortoise said and spitted out the rubies that were stuck in his throat and gave the man. So, Shang Tang got the rubies. The marsh tortoise also got feathers and could fly. He continued to return home and got to the house that had the daughter who did not speak until 18 years old. When he got to the house, the daughter saw Shang Tang and said that "Father, Shang Tang has arrived." When the daughter spoke immediately, the father got amazed. The old man asked that "Did you ask what I asked for me?" Shang Tang answered that "Yes, I asked for you. He said that your daughter will speak when she meets with a boy whom she loves." "You said my daughter will speak when she meets with a boy whom he loves means it is you. My daughter doesn't speak her whole life but when she saw you, she spoke. You two are a match. You marry her," the old man said and married her daughter with Shan Tang. Then, Shan Tang also got the girl. They left together. They got again to the old man who had the pear farm. "Did you ask what I asked for me?" the old man asked "Yes, I asked for you," Shang Tang answered. "What did he say," the old man asked. Shang Tang then answered that "Grandpa, he said that the reason that your pear plant do not fruit is because there are gold pots in the root of the pear plants." So, the old man was dishonest and did not want to give Shang Tang so he just said OK. Then, Shang Tang and his wife also left. After they left, the pear farm owner dug his pear plant and found two pots. He said to himself that "Now, I am rich," and when he opened the pot, there were a lot of small snakes. Because of the snakes, he was shocked. He had a bad attitude and since he wanted the snakes to kill Shan Tang and his wife, he covered the pot and put it into the room that the Shan Tang couple was living in. When the Shang Tang couple backed to their room, "where this pot is from?" the couple said and when they opened the pot, they found a lot of gold inside the pot. The old man was hiding and seeing them. "When I opened, it was snakes but when you opened, it was gold," the old man said. Shang Tang then said that "It was because you are dishonest. The old fortune-teller told me to also share the gold with me. Because you don't want to share with me and dishonest, it happened like that." Then, the old man got big regret.
