Description:English translation (by Maran Seng Pan) Many years ago, there was a farmer. He grew the rice crops in his paddy-field. Even though he was a farmer, he was an intelligent and knowledgeable man. Moreover, he was known as kind and polite farmer. He planted rice crops in his field. After the harvesting period, it was time to collect and haul the harvested rice crops. Once he finished collecting and hauling them, he went back to his paddy- field again. He saw a giant cucumber there. He was so amazed at it. Thus, he turned it over and rubbed it side by side because he couldn't believe it was a real cucumber. But he found out that it's a real cucumber. Soon, he had got the idea to go and ask about it to the farmers who grew cucumber. So, he took it to them. Even he showed to them, they also decided it as a giant cucumber. The cucumber was big and flawless. It's also quite heavy if just one person carried it. The farmers encouraged him to compete in Fruit and Vegetable Competition. He considered that if he participated in that competition, the money for a prize would not be so high. So, he just took it back home. He kept it at home and he considered to go and sell in the market. But he thought that if he sold it, he would get money but he would use it only in a short time. So, he was thinking what he should do. He thought if he gave it to somebody, he would be thanked and he would also get the gifts. So, he decided to keep it in his house. Even though he kept it in his house, he still worried that the cucumber would be stolen. Therefore, he couldn't even sleep well. One night, the King was planning to walk around and see his city since it'd been a long time he didn't walk around. That night, he took off royal attire and wore ordinary clothes. After that, he left the palace. When he passed by the farmer's house, he suddenly saw the giant cucumber through a hole. The King was amazed and curious about it. Hence, he determined to buy it from the farmer. He pretended as a buyer and went into the farmer's house. When the time he knocked on the door, it was already midnight. Therefore, the farmer shouted, " Who is it? What do you want?" "I want to buy the cucumber. I will give you a high price," the King replied. But the farmer did not want to sell it and he told him that he was not going to sell it and he would offer it to the King the next day. "Ok! If you don't want to sell it, I will not buy it anymore," the King replied and went back to the palace. The farmer also thought that if he offered it to the King, the King would be so happy and give him many presents. Along with that idea, he went to sleep again. The next morning, he prepared to go to the palace. But he still concerned that the King's Life Guards would chase after him if he walked into the palace by carrying the giant cucumber. He questioned himself that he should go or he should not go. He was in a dilemma. On the other hand, the King was also curious that the farmer would come to the palace and offer the giant cucumber to him or not. So, he was waiting for him. At last, the farmer decided to go to the palace and offer the cucumber to the king. He carried it and went to the palace. When he arrived there, he told the gatekeepers that he was going to offer the giant cucumber to the King. The gatekeepers also opened the door for him. As soon as he got inside the palace, he did not go directly to the King. He put down the cucumber and sat on it. When he was sitting on it, he saw the King was walking straight to him. At first, he whispered to himself that he had known that person. But then, he suddenly recognized the King was the one who asked to buy the cucumber from him in the middle of the night. As he was an intelligent man, he determined not to tell about the night he met him. He pretended as he had never seen him before. And he told, "I got this giant cucumber from my farm. I brought this to offer to you, your majesty." The King noticed that the farmer was an intelligent man because he would be punished if he told about the night, he denied him.
