Description: Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Although we are Jinghpaw, some are from the upriver district area and some are from Shan State. Jinghpaw from Shan State are educated earlier than Jinghpaw from the upriver area. When Jinghpaw from the upriver area couldn't learn anything yet, Jinghpaw from Shan State got the chance to learn how to read or write. Then, two men from different places met somewhere. A man from Shan State was proud of himself. He acted like he knew everything in front of a man from upriver area. He called him, "Stupid! Fool!" But the man from upriver area put up with him and didn't say anything. The man from Shan State asked, "Hey! Foolish man, do you know how to throw a cast net to catch fish (singgawn kabai)?" The man from the upriver area said, "Yes. Of course." Then, the man from Shan State said, "Let's go casting net fishing tonight!" At night, they went to a river and went fishing there. Then, the man from the upriver area sat in the bow and threw the net into the water. When they reached a place where the water was boiling, the man from Shan State said, "Hey! Throw the net here. Here might be much fish." Then, the man from the upriver area said, "Do you have another net?" The man from Shan State said, "What! Throw the earlier one." Then, the man from the upriver area said, "You said I had to throw it. So, I threw it!" The man from Shan State blamed him, "Such a foolish man from upriver area! Why did you throw it away?" The man from the upriver area talked back to him, "I'm not a fool. It's not my fault. You told me to throw it (singgawn kabai). So, I did. In our upriver area, we say net casting (singgawn hkan)." They couldn't catch any fish by the net. So, they caught some fish only by hand. When they got home, they cooked fish. When the man from Shan State went out for a while, the man from the upriver area put much salt into the curry. When his friend came in again, he acted like nothing happened and smelled the curry. And he said, "According to the smell, I'm sure this curry will be very salty." The man from Shan State said, "Foolish man! How can you know that it will be salty only after smelling it?" Then, the man from the upriver area said, "No, it will be salty. If you don't believe me, come get some smell." But the man from Shan State got only good smell. Then, the man from the upriver area said, "Then, taste it." When he tasted the curry, it was too salty. Then, he thought, "The man from the upriver area has his own skill too. I shouldn't look down on him." Since then, they became good friends without having any disdain. At first, they were arrogant and proud of themselves too much. But, they respected each other in the end. Everyone has his own skill and talent.
