Description:Translation (Htoi Awng) Once upon a time, there lived a rich man and a poor man in a village. The poor man often borrowed some rice from the rich man. He had borrowed three times from the rich man. Then, the rich man said, "Are you going to live your life just like this? Are you going to borrow all the time?" The poor man felt upset, "He looks down on me. I will not borrow from him anymore although I am starving. I will make him that he wants to give me willingly." One day, he visited the rich man's house. The rich man thought, "He is going to borrow something from me." They talked the whole day. But the poor man did not tell anything to borrow things from the rich. So, the rich man was surprised and thought, "He might know how to earn for his living. So, he didn't request me to lend something to him." The rich man asked him, "Why don't you borrow anything from me? What are you doing these days?" The poor man said, "Oh! I am just chilling at my house without doing anything. But, we don't need to work to earn money since my brain works well enough to get some money." Then, the rich man was curious and asked him, "What is your job?" The poor man said, "If you want to know about my job, let's make a deal. We will compete against each other." The rich man agreed and discussed the prize. The rich man said, "If you lose in the competition, you will have to work on my farms for three years. Is it deal?" The poor man thought to himself, "His idea is good. Even if I lose, I can work on his farm. Then, we can get some rice to eat." So, he agreed with the rich man. He told the rich man, "You will have to give me a thousand bags of rice if you lose." The rich man agreed with him too. The rich man thought that he would win the competition no matter what. They decided to start their competition at 10 am of the next morning. It was eating competition. They could do what they preferred. The rich man told his maids to cook the best dishes since at night. Meanwhile the poor man prepared two quinces in his bag. When they met, the rich man said, "We have discussed to have eating competition. What did you bring?" The poor man said, "My lord, you eat first." The rich man ate his best dishes in front of the poor man. The poor man really wanted to eat the food, but he resisted. When the rich man finished eating, the rich man told, "It's your turn now. You can eat your best dishes." The poor man washed the two quinces which he took and cut the quinces into slices. He started eating the fruit with pounded chillies and salt. The rich man felt so full because he ate a lot of food. When he saw the poor man was eating the quince slices, he wanted to eat badly and asked the poor man to share some quince slices. The poor man said, "If you eat these slices, you lose the competition." The rich man said, "It's okay. It's okay. Just give me some."
