Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Long time ago, there was a big lake outside a village. There were three big male frogs in that lake. One frog among them said. Near to that big lake, there were plenty of vegetables for pig. A very beautiful girl from the village usually came to get vegetables for the pigs. When that girl came, the three male frogs saw her. One frog said, "If I would become a man to fall in love with that girl." After having said that the other two frogs said, "It is impossible for you to become a human being and don't expect that you would get that girl." The frog said to his two friends, "You don't believe me that I can fall in love with that girl. I can even make her as my wife." The two said, "If you are so sure about getting her, then do it." Then, suddenly that frog turned into a human being and went out to land. After it had gone out of lake, there was a celebration in the village of that beautiful girl. There were people dancing so that frog went to see the dance. When the frog got there, the girl came to that dance floor too. When the girl got there, the frog that turned into a human being went to stood beside her. When the frog got near her and said, "I love you so much". Normally, when the girls are told that they are loved, their hearts beat faster and they feel it. That girl felt the same and they both fell in love. From that evening on, they both fell in love. It had been two, three months they had been in love, and the frog learnt everything about how human beings celebrate festivals, and how they perform Manau dance. When it returned home, the frog would always tell what he learnt like what Manau was like. The frog continued, "Manau is a wonderful dance, do you want to go and see it?" The two replied, "No, you go and watch it." The frog responded, "You two will regret it if you don't go." Then, as the frog was saying it again and again the two frogs wanted to go and see the Manau dance. They went to the place where human beings celebrated Manau Dance. When they saw it, they said, "It's very good and it's very beautiful." Then they thought about it and they discussed about it saying, "We, frogs, do not have what they call Manau, and that's why in our frog kingdom, let's have this Manau Dance Festival." Then, the frog that turned into human said, "Even if we have Manau Dance, we do not have bags that they use in the dance. Where can we get those bags?" When they were discussing that the two friends said, "Go and borrow bags from your girlfriend." The frog replied, "Sure, you two are correct, but if I just borrow bags, she would look down on me thinking that I couldn't afford to buy bags." They replied, "No worries". "Tell her that we will give them back." When they said that the frog agreed to borrow bags from its girlfriend. Then, the next day they were going to celebrate Manau Dance Festival so the frog went to borrow bags tonight. The frog went to the girl and said, "I will go to Manau Festival, so lend me your bag." "I will return it after two days." But the girl replied, "I will go with you." But the frog said, "This time it's only male are going to the festival. So, I will not bring you this time. But next time when there is a Manau Dance Festival again, we will include women. That time, I will bring you with me." Then, the girl said, "It is fine." And she lent her bag. Three days had passes after giving the bag to the frog, but it didn't come back to return. The frog did not return the bag after two days. On the third day, the girl went to collect vegetables for pigs again. While she was collecting the vegetables for pigs near the lake, she saw that there was the bag that she lended to her boyfriend at the middle of the lake. While it was floating on the surface, the girl thought in her mind, "That bag seems to be my bad that I lent to my boyfriend. I better go and see it." Then, she picked it up from the lake and saw that it was her bag. When she picked it up, she saw that her name was knit attached to the bag. It was an assurance for her to see her name attached to it. Then, she said, "Let this man come to me this evening, I would tell him that he had insulted me, and I would be angry with him." When it was evening, the frog came again as a man. The girl was talking so much very angrily. The frog said, "Why are you so mad? Are you mad because I borrowed your bag? I will return it to you." The girl replied, "Don't tell me anything. You borrowed my bag but you threw it in the lake." When she said that the frog said that when he went to the Manau Dance Festival, there were cruel and bad people who chased him. As he ran, he must had dropped it. Then, the girl replied, "If that's the case, bring me to your home. I want to visit your home." The frog said, "I can't bring you home." The girl said, "Why not? If you don't bring me to your home that's because you don't love me." When the girl said that the frog started thinking whether it should tell the truth to the girl or not. The frog decided to tell her the truth thinking, "If she loves me, she will love me no matter who I am." The frog said, "I am a frog. I love you so much that I turned myself to a human being and come to you." Then, the girl was so embarrassed that she stopped talking that night. From that moment on, the girl was so ashamed that she got sick. Thinking about falling in love with a frog made her sick and at the end she died with that sickness.
