Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I'm going to tell is about an ungrateful rich man. Once upon a time, there was a rich man in a village. He owned lots of properties, so he didn't need to work. One day, he went to a jungle because he wanted to know how beautiful nature was. He found the jungle was so beautiful with trees, plants, streams and rivers. He liked listening to the birds' singing too. He was amazed at the beauty of nature. He was not aware of the trap which was set to catch some animals. He fell into that deep pit. There was a bear inside that pit. And there were a monkey and a snake too. He was scared out of his wits. The animals said, "Let's not eat or attack each other. Let's find a way how to get out from this pit." Then, the rich man shouted loudly, "Help! Help! Save me!" He kept shouting that for four or five days. But no one came to save him. One day, a boy who rented the rich man's house went hunting for some animals in the jungle. At that time, he heard the man's shouting. He didn't know where to find him since the sound was coming out from above the trees or under the ground. He was confused. The rich man kept shouting, "Help us! Drop a rope into the pit. We will climb up." The boy found him in the pit. So, he dropped a tree trunk and a rope into it. The boy felt that someone held the rope, so he pulled the rope. Then, it was a bear. The bear quickly ran into the deep jungle as soon as it could get out from the pit. The boy thought to himself, "I thought the rich man could climb up. It was a bear." Then, the rich man inside the pit shouted again, "Drop a rope again. I will climb up." A snake came out this time when he dropped the string. He was getting scared. The boss didn't climb up yet, although the animals were coming out from the pit. So, he kept throwing woods into the pit and dropped the rope. A monkey climbed up this time. He wondered why the rich man couldn't climb up yet. He could still hear the rich man's shouting from the deep pit. So, he dropped the rope again. This time, the rich man climbed up. The rich man gave his words to the boy, "You save my life. So, I will give you half of my property. The house you rent will be yours too. Ask me anything you want. I can give you. Come to my house when we get back to the village." As the rich man said, the boy went to him. There were many guards in front of the rich man's house. They asked him, "Why are you coming here? Whom do you want to see?" He answered, "The boss told me to come to his house today. I saved him when he fell into the pit in the forest. So, he was thankful to me and promised to give me his house, which I rented. He told me that I could ask what I wanted too. So, I come here to meet him." Then, the guards told their boss about him. They said politely, "My boss, an orphan boy who saved your life came here to meet you. He said that you told him to come today." The rich man said angrily, "He told you about me! He might tell everyone about me. I'm so embarrassed. I can't give anything to him. Beat him up twenty-five times. After that, put him into prison for four or five days." He ordered his guards to beat the boy. He forgot the fact that the boy saved his life. After some days, the monkey came to the orphan boy and said, "I don't know how to pay back my gratitude to you. Use this wood at your wedding." And it put lots of wood in front of his house. The next day, the snake came to him. It gave him a priceless jade to show his gratitude. The bear came to him too. It said, "Call me when you need help." The boy felt dissatisfied with the rich man because the rich man told him that he would give money to him. Then, he sued the rich man for lying to him. The judges told the boy, "Tell us about what had happened between you and the rich man." The bear, the snake and the monkey came to the court too. When the judges asked the boy, the bear answered for him instead. It said, "When we were caught at the trap, the rich man was with us in the pit. The hunter saved all of us. Call that rich man, please. I will kill him! Let's ask him in front of the audience, "Who saved your life? Do you already forget him?" Dear judges, you should decide fair for the hunter. Tell the rich man to give him the money as he promised. If not, I will tear him off into pieces!" Then, the rich man had to give the boy some money and the house which the boy rented.
