Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The title of the story I'm going to tell is 'Bed bug and louse'. Once upon a time, there was a wealthy chief in a village. He had everything he needed and lived with the servants. However, there were lice and bedbugs all over his clothes and throughout the house. There were lice there. The lice sucked blood and thrived there because many people who ate plenty of food and became plump lived in the chief's house. During the day, the people in the chief's house didn't suffer, but at night, when they slept, the lice sucked their blood. The lice chose not to leave that house forever. They said, "Let's not leave here. This is the best place for us because there are many people. They are strong and plump, which is perfect for us. They won't even notice if we suck their blood too much. This is really good for us." One day, a bedbug went astray and ended up where the lice lived. The lice told it, "This is not your place. Why do you come here?" The bedbug said, "I have sucked blood from many people in different places, but I heard the people in the chief's house here are plump and strong. I want to suck their blood, so I came here. I won't live here for long. You don't need to worry." Then the lice said, "Okay. If you want to suck their blood, don't do it before they go to sleep. Suck their blood only when they are asleep. If they notice we exist, we will all be in trouble." The bedbug went to the chief's bed because it wanted to suck the chief's blood first. Then he was waiting for the chief on his bed. However, the chief didn't fall asleep quickly, and the bedbug got tired of waiting. So it sucked the chief's blood before he was asleep. The chief noticed that something bit him on his leg. He found the bedbug on his bed, so he called his servants, "Come here! Look at this! There is a bedbug on my bed. Kill it." The bedbug quickly hid between the floorboards. They couldn't find it anymore. The chief said, "It just bit me! It was right there. Find it everywhere." His servants searched everywhere: between the bedsheets, blankets, pillows, and even the chief's clothes. They found lice in the stitching of the chief's clothes. They said, "We found them! They are right here." The chief said, "Kill them! Tomorrow, wash every cloth, blanket, pillow and everything else with hot water." The lice were dead because of it. The bedbug didn't die because it was hiding between the floorboards. It kept living there and thought, "What the lice said is right. They told me not to suck blood before people are asleep." Later, it came out of the floorboards and only sucked people's blood while they were sleeping. The lice died because of the bedbug.
