Description: | A folktale told by Elijah Parung. Two orphan brothers, one brother goes to an island and sees the breadfruit tree. Below the tree is a cave of a spirit. The spirit asks for some breadfruit as the brother is harvesting. The boy throws the breadfruit onto the spirits face as he is looking up at him. The spirit’s vision is blocked, and the brother quickly runs away with his harvest. The older brother returns to the village refuses to share the breadfruit with his younger brother. The younger brother sets off to harvest his own breadfruit. Once again, the spirit is disturbed and says to himself that he will kill this brother because the other older brother had tricked him. After some time, the older brother set off to find his younger brother, he tells his grandmother of his plans, grandmother gives him coconut oil and instructs him to put oil as they fight the spirit. They bring the spirit back to the village and cremate him and vow to share everything with each other and not be greedy.. Language as given: | |
