Description:Ai Na Asi A Mavaru Kavamu (We Don't Dance For No Reason) Aaron Choulai is a Papua New Guinean-born composer, pianist, producer, rapper, and artistic director, now leading the Australian Art Orchestra. He is known for blending jazz, hip-hop, PNG choral traditions, and other cross-cultural influences. Born in Papua New Guinea in 1982, he moved to Melbourne as a teenager and studied jazz and composition there. Has worked across Melbourne, New York, and Tokyo, and is described as a key figure in jazz and hip-hop collaborations in Tokyo. This recording are interviews, instrumentals, choral music and jazz music of cross-cultural multimedia work "Ai Na Asi A Mavaru Kavamu" (We Don't Dance For No Reason). It combines Aaron Choulai's Melbourne jazz band VADA with the Tatana Village Choir from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, performing the Peroveta Anedia (Prophet Songs) choral tradition. It was first commissioned for the 2007 Queensland Music Festival and subsequently performed at WOMADelaide, Melbourne International Arts Festival, and the Australasian World Music Festival.2 Summary of the recordings. 001 - Interview & spoken intro (English/Tok Pisin) 002 - Choral music (Motu) 003 - Choir & Jazz (Motu) 004 - Choral music (Motu) 005 - Interlude/transition 006 - Choral music (Motu) 007 - Instrumental Music 008 - Choral music (Motu) 009 - Interview & Music (English/Motu) Source: Wantok Music Foundation (David Bridie & Steven Gagau, April 2026).
