Title:Aspects of Amahuaca Grammar: An Endangered Language of the Amazon Basin

This book is a collection of chapters, written over a period of about 20 years, that treat in detail some of the major themes of Amahuaca grammar. Amahuaca [amc] is a Panoan language spoken by 250 to 300 people in the Peruvian Amazon basin. The social and demographic situation of the Amahuaca and the general characteristics of this endangered language are sketched in the introduction and chapter l. Chapter 2 discusses clause-linking and switch-reference, the backbone of the grammar. Case and the split-ergative patterns are described in chapter 3 on noun phrases. Sentence types and the multi-term evidential system are described in chapters 4 and 5. Chapter 6 is an in-depth, text-based study of the frustrative form. A chapter on frequent morphemes and an appendix with an illustrative text provide the reader with helps for studying other aspects of the grammar.

In the interest of making this work available without further delay, we are posting it as it was accepted by the institution that granted the degree without further peer review.
