This project consists in the documentation of Eibela, also called Aimele (ISO-639 AIL), as part of a PhD project at James Cook University which will ultimately result in a grammar of the language along with a dictionary and a corpus of texts. Eibela is a severely endangered language with 300 speakers in Lake Campbell, Western Province in Papua New Guinea.
This is a recording of a portion of a church service preformed at a community gathering. Sokowa is a visiting pastor from Balimo who is delivering a sermon in Tok Pisin, which is then translated into Eibela by Siyakowa, who is a prominent Eibela community leader.
The sermon is delivered in Tok Pisin and translated to Eibela. Sokowa is a Gogodala man delivering the sermon, and Sijakowa is translating the sermon into Eibela.
