Description:This story was recorded by Elena Kalinina and Nina Sumbatova from Galina Ivanovna Kandakova in 2006. A first transcription and translation were made by Elena Kalinina with the help of G.I. Kandakova. In 2017, Natalia Aralova time aligned the transcription, glossed the text, and checked questions with G.I. Kandakova. This story happened when Galina Ivanovna was a girl and was going to school (to the 10th grade). Together with a younger girl they were on duty in the school and had to go home later. Despite a heavy snowstorm they managed to get home because there were some lights shining (as if there was a car) and lighting up the road. These lights were seen only by Galina Ivanovna, but not by her friend.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun' and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
