Description:Galina Kandakova tells about an incident when she was out picking berries with two friends and they met a bear; the friends ran away and tried to light a fire, but she stayed put and thus calmed her friends' fears. The story seems to have begun before the recorder was switched on – there's no real introduction. In the beginning, at the end, and in between there is the sound of some machine whirring (probably the old fridge - the session was recorded in the kitchen); also, Daria Nadeina appears to have come in at some point (she can be heard saying "I will sit down here", and at the end she asks a question), and Anna Nadeina was present, too – she can be heard saying something in the background, but Galina Kandakova did not react. Recorded by Elena Kalinina, Nina Sumbatova and Svetlana Toldova. Transcribed by Brigitte Pakendorf and transcription checked and Russian translation provided by Daria Nadeina in February 2017. Glossed by Brigitte Pakendorf and questions clarified with Daria Ivanovna Nadeina. // Галина Ивановна Кандакова рассказывает, как они с подругами встретили медведя во время сбора ягод. Подруги убежали и пытались костер развести, но Галина Ивановна осталась на месте и тем самым успокоила своих подруг.
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
