Description:Opening of the Independence Day celebrations in Mangaliliu. The performance starts with a procession lead by men in traditional attire singing a traditional Lelepa song and taking the flag to the flagpole. The procession is closed by the children of Mangaliliu who sing the song as well. The song is about how whales slap the water with their fin as they jump out and back in the water. This is likely to symbolise the power and strength of the nation of Vanuatu. The procession arrives to the flagpole near the church. While the flag is raised, the people sing the National Vanuatu Anthem.
