Description:This is an old tape recording made in the 1990s which was digitized in 2017 at the MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Tamara Ivanovna Nadeina had a 2-minute slot on the local radio in which she would read little tales in Negidal and provide a brief list of the main words at the end. This recording is the beginning of a fairy tale (translated from Russian) about the bear king. Unfortunately, we could not find the recording with the rest of the fairy tale. For the ELAN alignment, this little story was cut out of the overall sound file. We archived two sound files, one with original sound and one with noise reduction, performed in Audacity. In 2018 it was transcribed by Natalia Aralova, and the transcription was checked by Brigitte Pakendorf with Antonina Kazarova, who also provided the Russian translation. Glossed by Natalia Aralova and questions checked with Antonina Kazarova. // Это магнитофонная запись девяностых годов, которая была оцифрована в Институте эволюционной антропологии им. Макса Планка в Лейпциге в 2017-м году. Тамара Ивановна Надеина раз в неделю вела уроки негидальского языка по краевому радио, в которых она читала короткие тексты и в конце повторяла самые главные слова с русским переводом. Эта запись представляет собой начало сказки o царе-медведе (перевод русской народной сказки).
This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings.
Tamara Nadeina worked as a school-teacher all her life, mostly in her native village of Vladimirovka. She died in February 1999 aged 58.
Linguist working on previously collected data.
AVK worked as a kindergarten and primary school teacher, and since ~1985 as a teacher of Negidal for children for whom this is L2.
